Espionage 3 / Migrating Espionage 3 between ...
Last post by Limescale - May 18, 2026, 07:44:42 AM
Hi there, I am new to this forum and tried to search for an answer to this, so apologies if I have missed something already explained.

I have tried to move Espionage 3 and my vaults from an old Mac laptop to a new Mac Mini. I copied the locked mount point folders across and the sparse bundles and the database.

However, there seems to be an issue because the user names of the computers are not the same and I can't find a way to point to the new mount points, even though the folder structure is the same.

I experimented with a symlink which brought the old user name to the new Mac, without actually changing the user account and the folders mounted but then wouldn't dismount again.

Has anyone got any advice?

Cheers, Dominic

Espionage 3 / Is Rosetta 2 required ?
Last post by AlexLaforge - May 17, 2026, 04:37:20 AM
Hi,

I'm Using MacOS 15 (Sequoia) on ARM.
Is Rosetta 2 required for Espionage, or is it native ARM ?
This question because Rosetta 2 is going to be deprecated next year.

Thanks !

Hello, yes, this is a known issue. There is a workaround though, but it will need temp space on your internal disk.
First put the data on your internal disk, add the folder to espionage, let it encrypt, and once the folder is present in Espionage, click onto small "i" near the folder name to get to the folder options. There you will see a disk image drop down menu with the option to change disk image location, select your external drive and Espionage will move to the external image.
After that you will have the disk image containing the data on the external drive and lock and unlock as well as adding or removing files will work just fine. It is just the encryption processes which does not work.
I hope this helps

Espionage 3 / Can't create a new encrypted f...
Last post by jeffp - May 06, 2025, 09:53:42 AM
I'm trying to free up space on my internal Macbook SSD so I bought a Samsung T9 SSD to move old documents to.
I formatted the external SSD as APFS (Encrypted) and made a folder on it.  When I drag that folder into Espionage it looks to hang with a white bar, presuably the beginning of making the sparsebundle file.

I'm running Macos 15.4.1 and Espionage 3.7.4

We in support use to say that the problems which go away themselves come back with friends :-)
I'm glad it works, now, Espionage or not, it is wise to do a regular backup if not of the whole machine, than at least your home folder, that will include Espionage data as well if you left it all on default values.

Happy encryption

I was going to try this fix, but then the problem seemed to solve itself? I had restarted several times already so it wasn't a direct cure but eventually the list of folders came back. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hello, one simple try, can you switch the OS theme to light instead of dark and see if that changes anything. If it does not, please open a ticket with us and I will look into this thorough a zoom session if all right with you.

Espionage 3 / Espionage authenticates but wo...
Last post by Elusis - March 11, 2025, 07:19:56 PM
I just moved from a 2021 Macbook Pro to a new Macbook Air, running an M3 chip and Sequoia 15.3.1. My encrypted folders seem to have come over just fine but when I opened Espionage to get to one of my folders, I found an odd error. I can authenticate to get access, but then the dropdown menu from the menu bar is empty, rather than showing my folders to individually unlock.

I checked for updates but it says I'm current.  Any thoughts?

Sorry, can't seem to get my image to show - it's here https://imgur.com/a/HYruK3K

Hi,

I have been reading through these Forum posts and I fear I am making my situation worse and worse. I have been trying to migrate and restore my data fro my old MacBook Pro to my new one. I thought I restored and transferred it but now when I tried to open it up it placed the sparsebundle in the Trash and left an empty Rescued items folder.  I tried using directions to find the password but that didn't work either. I also tried to go back to my old computer and Time Machine backups to see if I could restore my data there but Espionage now tells me that I don't have the correct version to open those backups. I am completely Please help.
