"Disk images failed to mount" "Not recognized"
« on: December 29, 2010, 09:14:33 PM »
Hi,

I am using MAC OS X 10.5.8 and installed the trial version of Espionage a few weeks back. It expired and I attempted to restore the ".dmg" since it was not accessible. I uninstalled Espionage hoping that the file would automatically restore. Then I reinstalled and tried reopening once again and got the following error box "The following disk image failed to mount" and the reason stated is "not recognized." I have also tried re-encrypting the file and no luck.

This is the only copy I have of the contents, so I will be thankful for your help with this.

Thanks

Hi cquimby,

You can completely uninstall Espionage using its built-in uninstaller or, alternatively, reset Espionage. Then you can re-add the encrypted folder or disk image into Espionage.

Information on re-adding a previously encrypted folder is available here. If you have the disk image, you can either re-import it into Espionage by dragging it into Espionage, or you can follow the restoration instructions here.

If you get errors with all of those, then it's probably the case that the disk image has been corrupted somehow, in which case you'll need to attempt to restore from backups (if you kept any). Espionage's help can help guide you through restoring from backups as well.

Kind regards,
Greg, Tao Effect

(P.S. I moved the topic from the feedback forum into the general forum, as the feedback forum is for feedback on the forums themselves.  ;))

Welp, it seems I've completely lost photos from the last 10 years of my life (which included trips abroad, as well as cross country by car).

Any other tips?

I'm not sure there's much else to try. If the data is corrupted and you have no backups not much can be done unfortunately. Data corruption is rare, but it does happen, which is why backups are so important.
