Hello, sorry for the laaate reply, it seems that forum notifications were not set up properly on my side, so your post went by unnoticed, do you still have the problem?

Hello Norm, I did not advise you to launch Advanced Mac Tuneup. We are fighting with spam all the time, and it might be that you got an email which was not written by us. Feel free to open a support ticket with us, or send me an email directly to taoeffect@macmesupport.com and we can continue to communicate that way, to be sure you are getting emails from me.

In the mean time we will try to figure out what is going on with the forum.

Cheers

Espionage 3 / Re: Rebuilding System
November 15, 2017, 12:52:25 PM
Hello, if you send me your email to taoeffect@macmesupport.com then I can search our license database to determine if you have a valid license for version 3. Anyway, in case you are protecting a folder on an external disk, then the sparsebundle names will bear the name of the folder you are protecting, same as in Espionage 2. However in Espionage 2 the sparse bundle was located inside the folder you were protecting and in Espionage 3 they can be in any folder you want. So I guess it is indeed an Espionage 3 setup.

If this is so, then, whereas the password for sparsebundles in Espionage 2 were user defined, i.e. where those you used to unlock the folder, in Espionage 3 they are application generated and can be seen only if you deliberately copied them out of Espionage using the copy password button in folder info window. So unless you did that, you will not be able to import the sparse bundles.

If you have a backup of the espionage folder inside your home/Library folder, we can revert the espionage to an older date state and then you can copy the passwords out, if you do not have a backup then the data is lost.

Let me know if I can help you further,

Zsolt

Hello,

Espionage 2 is not compatible with OS X since Maverick and, we informed all our registered users quite a few years ago.

If you have some data to recover, then follow the first part, if not then just skip to the second part of this post.

There is a way to recover your data but requires some time and patience. First you have to recover your data, and then uninstall Espionage 2. Once you did all that, you can go ahead and download espionage 3 from http://www.espionageapp.com and add your folder back to it. Espionage 3 is fully compatible with Maverick and Yosemite and is actively developed and supported.

Here is what to do:

- download the following software http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24682/ivisible
- launch it, and click on "make files visible" button (in case OS X does not allow to launch ivisible, you have to go to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy, click on padlock icon in lower left corner and authenticate, then under General Tab, under "Allow apps downloaded from" select anywhere, wait for confirmation window, and then try to launch iVisible again)
- now revisit the protected folder and you will see a disk image inside, named same as the folder name, but having a dot in front of the name
- dobleclick it, it should ask you for password, enter it, and the image will mount as a volume, like for example an USB stick would mount
- open it and you will access to all your files
- copy them out, unmount the volume and delete the protected folder containing the disk image you just opened

once you have all your data back, you should uninstall Espionage 2. You can try either by selecting Uninstall option from Espionage's Espionage menu, or if that does not work, then you can manually remove all the files, here is a list:
Note that some files are in your home Library folder and some in your root Library folder. Your home Library folder is hidden since Lion, to enter into it from Finder, switch to Finder, hold down the option key and select Library from the list of "places to go".:

/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Espionage
/Users/[your username]/Library/LaunchAgents/com.taoeffect.EspionageHelper.plist
/Users/[your username]/Library/Services/EspionageMenu.service (might not exist)
/System/Library/Extensions/iSpy.kext
/Library/iSpy
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.taoeffect.ispyd.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.taoeffect.Espionage.plist (might not exist)
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.taoeffect.Espionage (might not exist)

once you removed the files/folder, please reboot your Mac

Let me know if you get stuck.

Cheers

Espionage 3 / Re: Espionage 3 with Google backup/sync
November 07, 2017, 12:25:09 AM
Hello, no this is not possible.
Espionage stores the data in encrypted disk image which is recognized only by Mac OS. To Google drive it will look like a folder with a bunch of files in it, these are so called stripes of the disk image. So again, in short, this is not possible.....unless, you combine with another app called tresorit. We tested this to some extent but we never officially embrace it, so you are doing it on your own responsibility, but I will be more then happy to assist you with the process.
Basically, what you do is use Espionage to protect the data on the Mac, and sync the unlocked folder with Tresorit clould, then you use tresorit app to access the files on the iOS or on their web front end.

If you are interested in details, let me know,

Cheers

Hello, first of all, my appologies for deleting your previous post, we are fighting spammers on the daily basis, and I was carried away during clicking.

What you say is rather strange, but fortunatelly I encountered the same thing, but not in Espionage!

I downloaded the damn Adobe Flash updater, just as I did thousand times already, and when I doubleclicked on it it mounted as Google Updater??? and it was empty.

But when I check the mounted volumes in /Volumes folder the it is Adobe Flash updater, and there is a file inside, the updater app, but when I try to launch it, it says it does not exist.

So there is something fishy in High Sierra and Volumes, but I had no time to investigate it, because I encountered it during work, and today I'm away traveling.

I will come back on this, in the mean time if you find something on the google, please let me kniw,

Thanks

I know that this will be difficult to provide, but if you see that it crashed, can you quickly launch console application and check the allmessages and system log for espionage entries?

In fact, you can do that even now if it crashed recently, just enter in the console search field

espionage

see if it returns anything,

thanks

I encountered this problem with a USB stick, but not with an External Hard Drive, although, there should be no difference. I will test it again and let you know if I figure something out.

Hello again, I tested once again, this time with an external disk instead of (slow) USB stick and all works fine, no delays of any kind and it is possible to lock the folders.

Thanks for your input so far, if you encounter any problems, please let us know

Thanks

Hello, I tested it, it seems to be working fine with folders which are on the local/startup volume.
If the folder is on an external volume like USB stick or disk, then there seems to be a problem with locking the folder, it reports constantly that it is in use even if all files are closed, and even if I quit Espionage.
You have to force eject the volume in the finder, this will lock the folder. It seems it is just a logical problem, no data should be damaged during this, but in spite of that, we will surely look into this.

Espionage 2 / Re: Progress bar stuck at 10%
September 28, 2017, 12:47:51 PM
Hello, I think this was a misunderstanding at that time, the progress bar on an encrypted folder shows the percentage of the data present in the disk image in comparison to the capacity of the disk image. If the disk image capacity is 10GB and you have 1GB in the protected folder, then the "progress bar" will be at around 10%.

Note that the disk image capacity and size are two different things, the capacity is the size util which the disk image can "grow" but the size will be similar, just a bit larger, then the total amount of data present in the disk image.

I hope this helps,

Zsolt

Hello,

If you protected only folders on your startup disk then all Espionage related files are in one place, this is your home folder/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3

This is the folder you have to copy onto the new mac before you launch espionage for the first time (if you launch it before that, it is no big deal, the difference is only that if Espionage does not find this folder on startup, it will take you through setup process and create the folder, then you have to quit Espionage and replace the newly created folder with the one from your old mac)

To reach that folder through finder, you hold the option key and select Library from the Finder's Go menu, once inside Library folder the further subfolders are normally visible.

Considering you launched Espionage already, then there will already be a com.taoeffect.Espionage3 folder. Quit espionage, rename that folder and then copy the one from your backup/old drive over.

Then launch Espionage and your folders should be there,

Let me know how it went,

Zsolt

Espionage 3 / Re: My folder disappear HELP!
July 31, 2017, 01:59:17 PM
Hello Javier,

first of all do not delete anything or empty the trash.
It is a bit strange that you found the sparsebundle in the trash it should have been on your desktop.
But never mind, just make sure you do not delete it.

But there should also be a file named 2xxxxxx password do not delete.txt" this file should also be on the desktop. The password is there.

Please let me know if you found it, and then I will give you further instructions,

Rgds
