restore folder problem
« on: February 24, 2010, 01:47:46 AM »
I think I may have accidently "restored" a folder. I had encrypted my pictures folder with espionage as a sparsebundle. I may have clicked restore folder and now in replacement of the pictures folder I just have the sparsebundle thats still encrypted I think. How can I get the sparsebundle back into espionage so things are back to the original state?

If you want to manually "re-create an Espionage'd folder" using the sparsebundle, this is possible, but alternatively you can first restore from the sparsebundle by following these instructions.

That said, the instructions for re-creating an Espionage'd folder from a sparsebundle is as follows:

  • Download our application Cloak
  • Create an empty folder with the *SAME EXACT* name as the name of the folder you had previously encrypted. The capitalization must be identical too. Say your sparsebundle is called "Secret.sparsebundle", then the folder must be called "Secret".
  • Move the sparsebundle into it.
  • Use Cloak to make the sparsebundle invisible using the "dot-prefix" method.
  • Add this folder to Espionage, it should recognize that it's already encrypted.
  • After clicking OK, you'll be presented with another prompt, say Yes to that, saying you're "sure this folder belongs to Espionage"

Best regards,

I added it by going to encrypt folder. I did not get the prompt that says its already encrypted. I think i encrypted it twice now.

I ran out of disk space during encrypting the folder again. It stopped in the middle with the critical alert error saying couldnt setup image. So i removed it from espionage and now im lost.

here is the log. im trying to access my pics to see if its still ok but my pw is so long. i used to paste my pw into espionage. is their a way to paste it into the regular image mounter? it wont let me paste.

leland,

The instructions I gave above should be good for getting the disk image back under Espionage's control. Check to see that you followed them closely, particularly the part about making sure the names are the same, and that the sparsebundle is made invisible using the dot-prefix method first.

If you still can't get it to work though I recommend simply copying the files out of the disk image and into a folder, and then re-encrypting that folder.

Best regards,
