Error creating disk image
« on: November 01, 2015, 12:32:34 PM »
Hi there, I've tried to encrypt a folder on a second hard drive (internal), but I get this error message on completion:

Error creating disk image

Failed to trash 'Folder':
You do not have permission to move the file "Folder" to the trash.

I've checked file permissions, and my main admin account (which I'm logged in as) has read / write permissions to the folder, along with the admin user. Can you let me know if there's anything I need to do to sort this? The system works fine on any folders on the startup disk, it's just the second hard drive where I have the problem.

Well, usually it is a permission problem. Try to trash yourself the folder you want to protect with Espionage...I'm not saying you delete it, just put it into the trash. If you are asked to authenticate, then the permissions are wrong. As Espionage does not have the option to ask you to authenticate, it just reports that it cannot trash it....

There is an option to ignore the permissions on the volume, select the volume, then get info on it and in lower part of the window you will see the option....

Or, you can simply create a new folder, try to trash it, if it does not ask you to authenticate, then it is only that old folder which has the problem, just copy all your files into this new folder and then Espionage should be able to trash it with no problem...

Let me know how it went,

If I tried to delete a folder I was warned that the folder would be deleted immediately (and not go to trash), and creating a new folder and copying files didn't work either. However, the 'ignore permissions' option worked for me, so thanks very much for the advice.

Hello, I had no rush replying as obviously you are fine now, but I will just add my two cents...if Finder says that the folder will be deleted immediately this very probably means that you are encrypting a folder which is on a network share. This of course adds another layer of complexity to the entire story. There might be different approaches to make this work, but as long as the ignore permission flag works for you, I'm fine with that.

If you run into some other problem, just let me know.
