I made a copy of one of my V3 folders as instructed by Tao effect ( see screen shot)

What instructions were you following? What did you copy?

Regarding the unique passwords for each disk image: as long as you have a copy of Espionage's database, and you place the disk images where it expects them to be, you don't need to remember any of those passwords, just your master password(s).

The database is located here:

/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/database

Espionage also creates backups of it just in case the database gets corrupted. Those backups are stored here:

/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/Backups

Finally, if you absolutely must know the password to the disk images, simply click the "Copy password" button in the folder details view.

The screenshot shows that the folder has been successfully encrypted. You should be able to unlock it now by moving the slider.

In the Espionage menu, a folder I am attempting to lock is stuck at 8.3 gb of 83 gb and has been for about two weeks.  The bar is trying to chug along but never moves...  How do I Fix this? Thanks

It shouldn't take longer than a few hours to encrypt that amount of data, even with a slow drive.

Where is this data located? Is it on a network drive?

If it has been there that long it's safe to say it won't finish, so you can click the 'x' to cancel it.

Also, note that the folders in the "EspionageBackups" folder are not created by Time Machine, but were created by Espionage 2's built-in backups.

If you were also running Time Machine, you can follow the Time Machine restoration instructions for Espionage 2 to retrieve the disk images for those folders, and then follow the Mavericks Guide instructions to either manually restore those disk images, or import them.

Yes, you should be able to recover the files from that backup. If you're using Espionage 3, copy that "MyFolder" to some other location (copy, don't move), and then follow the instructions in the Mavericks Upgrade Guide:

There's no Espionage folder in there. I think I probably used AppZapper to uninstall E2. Would that have been a bad idea?

Eh... generally, yes. We recommend using Espionage's built-in uninstaller over anything else, because it will properly uninstall Espionage. However, with Mavericks bugs, that might not always be possible, in which case a manual uninstall is the next-best thing. AppZapper might not uninstall iSpy (it certainly didn't in the past).

Mmm, can't find any sparse bundles or images but the icon in the menubar has disappeared since I created this thread? Maybe when I deleted the plist? Transmission works again without error message. Still have 37gb of mystery data on my hdd. Presumably not espionage related.

Deleting the plist shouldn't immediately remove the helper, but deleting and then restarting will (or, using launchctl to unload the helper, as explained in the guide).

Make sure to remove iSpy as well.

Yeah, it's a pain. I don't doubt I'll want more than 120Gb in the future but I'm counting on there being a market demand for expert solderers who can swap out SSDs.

Yeah, but then will the extra cost of paying for that service be worth it? I somehow doubt it. :-\

Yeah... I've seen it only when someone else has let me use their computer for a bit. I've got a 2010 15" MBP currently, but have also upgraded the RAM to 8GB and the drive to 500GB SSD (with TRIM enabled). I miss the ability to upgrade their laptops... that's the only thing that annoys me about all the new ones. :-\

Was concerned that extra space might be used against total disk space available for use for computer as a whole .... Doesn't look like that's the case though?

The capacity size affects the size of the disk image only slightly.

As an example, an empty folder with a 10GB capacity will take up ~74MB on the drive.
Increasing the capacity to 100GB makes the empty folder take up ~93MB on the drive.

That's cause that's E2, not E3. :)

Please have a look through the Mavericks Upgrade Guide guide. Also, if you don't need to restore any folders, there's a link near the end (in the Cleanup section) to a thread on how to uninstall E2 manually.

The only option for adjusting capacity is to increase it ... which is why I posted, I am not given an option to decrease .... ... I've already reclaimed size ... there's none left to reclaim.

Why do you want to decrease the capacity? It won't save much space relative to the capacity itself. We didn't think anyone would need to do that so I'm curious.
