No problem. Zsolt sent me a quick reply. He said "It was continued as support ticket." (Not sure if that's referring to CreativeDesigns or Monterrore; I'm guessing Monterrore).

He also suggested that you have a look at our video on how to encrypt your email with Espionage (if you haven't already), and to reply to this thread if you have any questions.

I just contacted Zsolt about this. He's doing some traveling and will be back at the end of the week. He might be able to respond periodically while he's traveling.

I'm surprised he didn't see or respond to Monterrore's post (maybe he did, but over email?).

Oftentimes you should be able to tell Mail to re-import email from a Mail folder by doing File > Import Mailboxes..., so that might help.

Alas, I have never experienced these problems with my email so I'm not sure what's going on, and Zsolt did the original remote session with CreativeDesigns so I don't know how that ended (perhaps CreativeDesigns could comment?).

Hi Ross, the "Espionage" folder is for version 2. Version 3 uses "com.taoeffect.Espionage3". So, if you haven't encrypted anything yet, and you want to reset Espionage, you can delete the "database3" file inside there.

So, again, the steps to reset Espionage 3 are:

• Choose Go to Folder... from the Finder's Go menu.
• Paste this in and click Go: ~/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3
• Delete the database3 file and the encrypted data in the Data folder. Again, you will lose all of that data if you do this!

This feature has been implemented! :)

PS: Are you going to encrypt the Folder Action scripts along with the Folder Sets database in the upcoming or a future version of Espionage? If one uses a Folder Action script to further obfuscate one's sparsebundles that code needs protection, too, and the best and safest place I can think of should be the encrypted Folder Set definition...

Folder Actions are already encrypted along with the rest of the information about the folders. You could store a script that's run within one of your other encrypted folders...

Ah, I forgot about this option. Yes, you can do a bi-directional sync on the unlocked folder contents (I've edited my previous reply to reflect this).

This will probably be slower though, because the operating system has to encrypt and decrypt the data as it's being copied.

Does dropbox handle things better?

Dropbox does not handle things better, but you can use it, just follow these instructions.

What does the folder Temp in Data contain? It is present on one computer but not the other

Nothing of value, you can ignore it. It's just used by Espionage during initial folder encryption to host temporary folder mountpoints. It doesn't actually contain any data.

Can I sync the ~/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3 between two macs using a program such as chronsync?

I want to keep all the disk images in sync on both macs. If it is possible should the images be locked or unlocked at the time of sync?

Yes, it's possible, provided that you do it one of two ways:

Option 1:

• Make sure both folders are locked before you sync.
  
• Sync only in one direction. Do *NOT* do a bi-directional sync!
  

Option 2:

• Make sure both folders are unlocked before you sync.
  
• Sync the unlocked folder contents, *NOT* the disk images! You can do bi-directional syncs with this option.
  

A related question, are there any disadvantages to storing the disk images in a location other than the Data folder?

Not really, unless you place them in a folder where they will be automatically and incorrectly synced by some other application.

Oh, also, do not store them on a network mounted volume. External drives are OK, network mounts can be very slow and potentially result in problems.

Hi Peter!

You're stumbling on one of the reasons why we removed Application Templates from Espionage 3. Managing a large, ever changing list of applications that move their data around was taxing our development and support time.

I don't have my Calendars app encrypted, so I haven't personally investigated where its data now resides, but it has probably moved from OS update to update.

One of the major changes in Lion (I think it was Lion), was Sandboxing. This took the application data of many apps (most of Apples, and all of those on the App Store), out of ~/Library and ~/Library/Application Support, and moved it into ~/Library/Containers/...[some subfolder]...

Not all of them were moved though (for example, Mail). Worse, some apps were renamed. If you recall, Calendars used to be called iCal, and it might still be storing some of its data under an "iCal"-type folder. For example, this folder does exist on my computer: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iCal

I would search all of these locations for folders that contain either "Calendar" or "iCal" in their name:

• ~/Library
  
• ~/Library/Application Support
  
• ~/Library/Containers
  

To make things even more confusing, sometimes the folders inside of ~/Library/Containers will use symbolic links (aliases), to link back to folders within ~/Library. Additionally, apps that using sync features sometimes need completely unrelated folders encrypted ("MobileMeSync", "iCloud", and other folders with "Sync" in their name).

With enough futzing you will probably be able to figure it out, but it might take a while. Remember that you'll probably need to encrypt multiple folders for this one application, and then use Folder Actions to link them up together so that unlocking and locking one folder automatically locks and unlocks the rest (and launches or quits the app).

If you decide it's not worth your time to find exactly which Calendars-related folders need to be encrypted, you may want to consider enabling FileVault instead, or using a different calendar app.
