Espionage 2 / Re: Espionage'd Mail file does not index

In looking at the problem more closely, it seems that some of the 'On my Mac' folders are the ones not getting indexed.

Espionage 2 / Espionage'd Mail file does not index
September 11, 2011, 03:34:28 PM
This didn't seem to be an issue under Snow Leopard, but searching for anything in Mail, under Lion, gets no results. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Patience...patience...patience...

So, two hours later, here is what happened:

• Espionage completed its unencrypting
• The mounted volume self-unmounted
• The restored folder was...well...restored
• Life went on as usual around here

Thanks, Tao. Continue to love Espionage.

Espionage 2 / Normal restore: what happens, how long?
January 26, 2011, 09:05:02 AM
I have an encrypted folder on an external drive. It is approx. 48GB in size. From within Espionage's program window, I selected the folder and selected the '-' button to restore the folder to normal. Wiithin a minute or so, the folder name was mounted volume on the desktop. Opening it shows the file and, system syas, it is that approx. 48GB size. HOWEVER, Espionage has been cranking -- 'Restoring folder...' indicator on lower right -- for about 45 minutes. The external drive still shows the folder but it is now approx. 15GB. It has been at that size for at least 20 minutes.

In the course of a normal restore, what should happen (on the desktop and/or on the external drive), what inter-states of storage am I/should I be seeing, and is it likely that it can take a very long time to complete the restore? Other than checking that Espionage is not 'not responding' from the forced quit list, how can I monitor any progress?

Yes...I just tried that. And it does work...though, as you said, not the convenience i'm looking for. Hopefully a future feature. Thanks, Greg.

When I select a folder to unlock from Espionage in the menu bar, a folder appears, then the password box, then the unlocking takes place (after I enter my password) and the folder remains (not even the folder I was unlocking but the root level of my Mac.) I would like for a folder NOT to appear...to have the unlocking take place in the background. Possible?

This works wonderfully, Greg. Thanks for the knowledge.

Espionage 2 / Different Unlock behavior for Parallels VM?
November 12, 2010, 08:15:04 AM
I dragged a Parallels virtual machine (.pvm file) into Espionage. It is 28GB. After a while, it successfully created the encrypted version. I deleted the original (trashed) item.

What I usually do for my other encrypted files -- both of which are folders -- is select them from the Espionage menu bar icon, it asks to enter my password, and it unlocks. The folder then opens. When I do the same for the .pvm file, I get NO PASSWORD PROMPT, Parallels opens and it displays a message: "The specified bundle is invalid. The bundle does not contain a valid Parallels virtual machine." Opening Espionage program, I can see that the .pvm file was not unlocked.

Yet, in that Espionage window, if I uncheck the 'Locked' box and save, the file unlocks and Parallels doesn't open. I can then open Parallels and it sees the .pvm, as one would expect.

At first I thought that it was launching Parallels because it was a Parallels file and not a folder. But if that was the case, why wouldn't it do the same from within the Espionage window? Any ideas/experience anyone? Thanks!

Espionage 2 / Suggested or impractical size limit?
August 19, 2010, 06:43:45 AM
I am so enjoying Espionage...it is wonderful! Thanks team Tao.  I have a question about encrypted files sizes.

As quick background, I use my personal MacBook Pro at work for some of my projects; I have a Windows PC there as my primary machine. Part of my compliance with the company's information security policies is to encrypt the folder on my Mac where I use and store company work product. It is about 11GB in size and I am daily amazed at how quickly and reliably Espionage encrypts/un-encrypts this folder. It got me thinking....at home I use a Parallels virtual machine version of my work Windows PC so I can connect to the office and work from home. I would feel most comfortable if I could encrypt that VM, too. So I made a copy of it on an external drive and set about encrypting it. I am now sitting here watching this 52GB file get encrypted. Not surprisingly, it is taking a long time, which is fine. But it made me wonder, is encrypting and/or working with such a large file not recommended or impractical in regular use?

Thanks to anyone who has experience with this.

Espionage 2 / Auto-lock
July 29, 2010, 08:06:13 AM
I don't think I am missing this in the prefs or individual folder options, so this is a post to see what's possible and if any other users feel as I do. (If I've missed this feature, please direct me to where/how to implement it.)

One of the reasons I want to encrypt a folder is for security purposes. That security would be greatly enhanced if my unlocked folders would auto-lock upon: shutdown, logout and/or sleep. Is this possible?

Thanks, Greg. That did it.

Espionage 2 / Similar question: Shared Folder
June 11, 2010, 09:15:58 AM
After I made a shared folder a protected folder (with Espionage), I can find no way to access its contents from within Parallels. I added the folder name (which, in the finder is an alias to the unlocked folder) but it doesn't see it. And since the ID number changes each time we unlock a folder, well, you get it.

Thanks for your help.
