Espionage 2 / Re: Critical Error with PostBox

Quote from: "scottwalter"Sorry its for OS X Lion GM Release.    I must have gotten my cat names mixed up.  I emailed the diagnostic results.
Hi Scott, we received your report. This is a known issue with Espionage on Lion. We're working on fixing this as soon as possible.

For now, unlock the Postbox folders first before opening Postbox and lock the folders after you're done with Postbox.

We're sorry about this one.

Hi cpjustins,

Can you tell us what it was?

Quote from: "L2D"Hi Mike,

Thanks for your help.  I agree about your security concerns and am planning on placing the external drive containing unencrypted files in a safety deposit box.  I am already backing up using the built-in Espionage backup so I'll try adding this other method to my process.

Lori

Hi Lori,

You're absolutely welcome. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Quote from: "L2D"Is it ok to unlock all folders then use Chronosync to do a one-directional (left to right) sync of the unencrypted files to an external harddrive?

I'd like to have unencrypted versions of my files backed up in the event that my encrypted Espionage sparsebundles get corrupted.

Thanks.
Lori

Hi Lori,

Yes, it is totally okay to do this. After the sync, confirm that your data is usable on the external drive.

I do recommend that you take all the steps necessary to protect the external drive, so that nobody can steal it from you. Many people think to secure their files on the computers itself but if their external drive are stolen in plain sight, there isn't anything that can prevent the thieves from doing what they want with your data since it is not encrypted or secured with a password.

Please note that Espionage can also back up your encrypted folders, this is recommended as a preventive measure against data corruption. So, in additional to using Chronosync to back up your decrypted data, you can use Espionage to back up your data to the external drives. At least this way, you'll have two copies of the data.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any questions.

Quote from: "calythane"How much does it cost to use opera mini on the upstagge phone to use with sprint? If you have unlimited internet with sprint does it still cost money to get on opera mini or does opera mini work as if i have unlimited internet on it too. So if i have unlimited internet on my phone would it have unlimited internet on the opera mini also i have a Samsun upstage phone from sprint.
Hi Calythane,

Welcome to our forums. Unfortunately, this isn't the right place to ask about that. You might want to try the Sprint's customer service here:

Espionage 2 / Re: Password Generator
June 09, 2011, 11:43:08 AM
Hi Franck,

Time Machine will continue to back up your folders even if it is unlocked. While you can still use Time Machine to back up your folders, Espionage is the sure way to back up your folders safely and that is only done when the folders are locked.

You can force Espionage to back up while it is unlocked by pressing the option key down while you go to the Espionage's Menu app > [Folder Name] > Backup Now as described in this blog:
   http://www.taoeffect.com/blog/2011/06/e ... -released/

You can tell Time Machine to exclude certain folders but there isn't a way to inform Time Machine specifically how to back it up. Time Machine backs up whatever is on your drive whenever it is scheduled to run a backup.

I hope that helps, please let me know.

Hi Francky76,

That's a great idea, we'll see if we can add the password generator in the password fields in a future update.

Thanks for the suggestion, keep them coming and this is a great place to suggest new ideas or you can email us at mailto:support@taoeffect.com">support@taoeffect.com

Hi rshepherd,

That doesn't sound right. The EspionageMounts is a folder created by Espionage  that is used to mount your encrypted folders. Your actual folders shouldn't be located in this folder. They should be located in your Home folder.

Did the diagnostic tool submit the whole report to us? If not, there may be a zipped file on your desktop. If you see a zipped file starting with TEDT, please email that file to us at mailto:support@taoeffect.com">support@taoeffect.com.

That's great news, thanks for the update.

You're welcome and if we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

When you open the folder, do you see three folders created by Espionage?

Open Espionage, unlock and then drag your encrypted folder into the app, it should then let you know that it was previously encrypted by Espionage. You should be able to open the folder correctly now.

If not, could you download our diagnostic tool here and submit it to us at the end.

I hope that helps, please let me know.

Did we fixed everything for you? I just want to make sure that we didn't miss any of your emails and get a quick update on the situation here.

Quote from: "rshepherd"I reinstalled the program. Espionage now opens. But when I go to the folder which was previously encrypted I am not prompted for a password and the folder appears empty.
Hi rshepherd,

Does this happen for all of your folders or just one folder? If you open Espionage, unlock, select the folder on the left side, uncheck the "Locked" on the right side, and then save changes, what happened then?

Can you reboot your Mac, sometime it'd help.

Please let me know how it turns out.

Hi sumocomputers,

Espionage won't be able to work properly with your Time Machine's backups folder. The way that Time Machine works on your computer doesn't allow Espionage to detect when Time Machine is performing a backup. It is part of the OS itself, not an app that Espionage can detect like for many other apps.

You can let Time Machine do its first backup and then encrypt the folder but the next time Time Machine runs, it may not be able to detect the previous backups because it looks at the drive as a whole, not just the folder. What'd happen is that Time Machine asks if you want to create a new backup or pick a different volume for the backups. You may be able to do this manually but it may not work as you expected since Time Machine is picky about how the drive is set up.

It isn't possible to use FileVault to encrypt an external drive at the moment but it will be possible starting with OS X Lion to support full disk encryption for external drives. Espionage is designed to encrypt specific folders to reduce the performance hit from using FileVault on the entire drive. It doesn't support full disk encryption but that may not mean it will not be possible in the future.
