Title: Error - Couldn't establish communications with iPsy. Error 1.
Post by: Daniel Paquin on April 15, 2016, 12:20:22 AM
Hello, I've just installed EI Captain on my Mac. When restarting the MacBook Pro I now get this message "Error - Couldn't establish communications with iPsy. Error 1."

I went to the root library /Library/  and could not find the folder iSpy.

How can I fix my problem ?

Many thanks in advance!

Daniel

Hello Daniel,

There are two Library folders, actually 3...one is in your home folder, another in root of the hard disk and third in the root system folder

This is the list of files you have to remove:

/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Espionage
/Users/[your username]/Library/LaunchAgents/com.taoeffect.EspionageHelper.plist
/Users/[your username]/Library/Services/EspionageMenu.service (might not exist)
/System/Library/Extensions/iSpy.kext
/Library/iSpy
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.taoeffect.ispyd.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.taoeffect.Espionage.plist (might not exist)
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.taoeffect.Espionage (might not exist)

so the iSpy folder is in root Library folder, you can open the terminal and simply write

cd /Library
open .

this will open the root Library folder in the Finder. There should be an iSpy subfolder as this is what the OS is complaining about (plus the /System/Library/Extensions/iSpy.kext)

The root /Library folder and /System/Library folder should be visible in Finder, it is only that the user/LIbrary folder is by default hidden, but you can reveal it by holding down the option key and selecting "Library" from the Finder's Go menu.

Give it another try and let me know how it went,

Rgds
Zsolt
