Title: Errors trying to encrypt on external volume
Post by: ubercurious on July 26, 2012, 04:15:32 PM
Hi,

I'm trying to encrypt a folder on an external volume/drive and each time I try, I get some version of the following:

"diskimages-helper: DI_kextDriveDisconnect returned 268435459 ((ipc/send) invalid destination port).
hdiutil: create failed - Operation not supported"

When I'm trying to encrypt the folder, I'm asked to 'Choose An Image Location'...I've tried a few different locations, including the original location of the folder itself, but no luck. I keep getting some version of the above error, or just "hdiutil: create failed - Operation not supported".

Any ideas about what's going on here? By the way, this is an NTFS formatted drive, and I do have a third party extension installed (NTFS for Mac) to be able to work with that drive...

Thanks!

Hello,
We did not test it with NTFS and honestly I would not do that as you are fiddling with important data, it is already stored in a disk image which has to mount etc etc, adding another software layer (the NTFS driver) to the whole story can just call for troubles.

What you can try is to create a sparse bundle disk image using disk utility on the same disk and see if that succeeds, if it does, then we can troubleshoot this further if you insist.
