Trying to encrypt a folder, I get the following message:

Critcal Alert! Can't encrypt 'Folder Name': failed to get password from keychain

I'm trying to use a custom password with this folder that's different from the Espionage main password. Is this possible, and if so, what am I doing wrong?

Sometimes the keychain can be a bit flaky (and we are planning on moving away from it). There are a couple of things you can try (and I would try them in this order):

  • Restart your computer and try again
  • Repair the keychain. Open the Keychain Access application (Spotlight for it), and from the menu choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid. Then enter your admin password, select Repair, and click Start. After it's repaired restart your computer and try encrypting the folder again.
  • Try switching keychains in Espionage's advanced preferences.

If that doesn't help please download and run this diagnostic utility.
