Espionage 3 / Re: Restoring from Time Machine

Zsolt,

Thank you for your kind offer. It may be simpler for me to wait until I get back home, delete the encrypted files, and restore them from my home machine unencrypted, and then set Espionage up to run properly from there. Does that seem likely to work to you?

Espionage 3 / Re: Restoring from Time Machine

In Espionage, the sparse bundle listed under disk image is a name I recognize; in /Library/ApplicationSupport/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/Data there is one folder (Temp) and one file, a sparsebundle with the uncatchy name of AA9B4446-B956-4DA0-B600-E5549B0EB744. When I try to specify the uncatchy named sparsebundle in Espionage by choosing it as my disk image, I get:

Invalid disk image   The selected disk image password does not match the folder password.

I'm still at a loss.

Hello Zsolt,

I picked another folder for the mount point (a new, empty folder), but I now receive the message "Diskimage missing!" I'm a bit confused.

Thanks,
David

Espionage 3 / Restoring from Time Machine
September 03, 2013, 05:48:37 AM
Hello,

I have set up my Mac using Setup Assistant. I now receive a Mountpoint Missing message—fair enough, the location of the folder from the previous Mac was on a hard drive which is not available, but the data is on the current Mac in the usual place (/Library/ApplicationSupport/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/Data). But I'm not sure how to establish a new mount point.

I've tried dragging the data file into Espionage, which asks me to specify a new folder and password, but any password I try, including the old one, is flagged as an invalid password. I'm stuck.

I downloaded Esp 3.5 and reinstalled it. Worked.

Weird.

Espionage 3 / Update Failed
June 03, 2013, 01:58:43 AM
Hello, I went to open Espionage and it asked to update to ver. 3.5 (I think). I said yes. Now, the padlock is gone, and when I attempt to run Espionage from my Applications folder, nothing happens. I'm locked out of files I need. Restarting Mac did not change anything. Help!

Espionage 3 / Re: Where is the Backup tab in Preferences?
November 30, 2012, 06:02:15 PM
Thank you for the reply, Zsolt. If you don't mind my asking, looking at the link I provided, how was I supposed to know? I understand that the jump to version 3 has not gone entirely smoothly, but it might help if some enterprising soul were to go through all the version 2 pages and make it clear that those instructions do not apply to version 3. Even Search and Replace all instances of "Espionage" to Espionage 2" would be give the user a chance to see that it might be different. Some modest boiler plate text pasted at the top of each answer or page could perhaps help. Even here on the forums, I can clearly see that I am in the Espionage 3 area, but there is no such orientation on the aforementioned link. That strikes me as unfortunate. In my case, I searched for an answer, found it, and was unable to implement it for a sufficiently long time that I had to write to ask. This adds up to a considerable quantity of end-user frustration, and does not help build the Tao Effect brand, as this frustration seems avoidable. Again, pardon me if I am wrong about all of this, but even if I am, I thought you might like to know what it can look like from our end, as it seems to be a simple issue which could be addressed.

Espionage 3 / Where is the Backup tab in Preferences?
November 29, 2012, 08:20:08 PM
At http://www.taoeffect.com/espionage/Espi ... iltin.html there is a very nice picture of Espionage's preferences. That picture includes a Backup tab. When I go to Preferences, no backup tab is listed. Please tell me if there is a different Preferences pane somewhere, or how else I can specify backups so I have something other than Time Machine going for me. I'm using V3.04.
