I know the title sounds confusing. Sorry about that.

Former user of Espionage 2 here. I haven't used it in a while.

I have a new MBP, and am trying to clean up and make it secure. I have used Undercover for a while, as security should the computer be stolen.

I am currently using FileVault 2, which seems to run just fine.

But Undercover says not to use FV, and to use Espionage instead.

Before I purchased a new license, I made the mistake of reading the Tao Effects website, specifically about using Application sets for Mail data folders. The video states not to use this feature unless 'you know what you are doing.'

Another post on the forum says that FV and Espionage work well together, with FV handling application data.

Now I am completely confused. Can I use both Espionage and FV? If so, do I need to use the application data encryption in Espionage 3? If so, what are the 'you know what you are doing issues?'

Thank you in advance for helping me to understand!

Espionage 2 / Failed restore
February 22, 2011, 07:38:25 PM
I tried to disengage one of my folders from Espionage; in other words, I don't want it encrypted any more.

I got some sort of failed restore, and have a disk image on my desktop. I can double click and get a new folder (after I enter my password), but the data is corrupted.

I have tried reading this forum, but cannot make heads or tails of the information.

In English, what do I do at this point?

Espionage 2 / I have run out of disc space
September 09, 2010, 09:34:14 PM
I have been using Espionage for approximately four months, and find it easy to use, with two problems. The first is the most pressing:

I am almost out of disc space.

I use Espionage for one program, namely DevonThink Pro, which contains most of my data. I use Espionage to encrypt the database folder, which contains six databases. I also use the backup function of Espionage, utilizing 'Enable Automatic Backup...'. I then use TM to backup my entire HD to a RAID NAS, and use an off-site cloud storage/backup system (iDrive) just in case of fire, theft, etc.

Tonight I found that my HD is almost full. I used Grand Perspective to check on what files are occupying my HD and found the two largest are:

Documents/My Data/Computer/Mac/.DEVONthink Pro Office Data.sparsebundle
Documents/My Data/Computer/Mac/EspionageBackups/Scott/-1732614186/DEVONthink Pro Office Data.sparsebundle

I do not understand the process in great detail, but the two files listed take up almost 55 GB of my HD.

How can I work around this?

Also a smaller issue is that whenever I close this program, I get an error that backups failed (error 15, I believe). If I then run backup again, it succeeds.

Thanks for any advice.

Espionage 2 / Massive TM Backups
June 17, 2010, 08:34:20 PM
I have one folder with about 20 GB that I am encrypting. I have set TM to ignore this folder, and am using the Espionage backups.

Unfortunately, each TM backup is now on the order of 30 to 40 GB, where they were under 1 GB before.

Is there something I need to change? Is each backup a single file, that with a single change gets backed up in entirety?

I will run out of storage space in a week with this sort of issue.

Thanks!
