Ok, thanks.

FYI, I updated the blog article in accordance with your earlier comments.

Thanks Zsolt,

It's a good point about adding the folders _with_ content. If I recall, when I did that (added a folder with content), somehow a copy of that folder ended up in my Trash — including the original content. I wasn't sure if I did something wrong, or if it's the intended behavior of Espionage — but it was slightly concerning that the content I thought had been secured was still unsecured somewhere (or a copy of it, at least.)

Are you aware about that behavior?

For those interested, I just posted an article to my blog detailing how to use Espionage together with Dropbox. I know there's an article about this somewhere on the Tao Effect, but I wanted to go into more detail and present the process in the context of a use case that probably will appeal to a lot of people:

I posted the steps to reproduce this in the other thread.

OK, here how you can reproduce the first bug I reported — Espionage asking for password on launch.

1. Create a new folder list.
2. Add four folders — F1, F2, F3, and F4
3. Enable auto-unlock on folder F4.
4. Control-click and decrypt F4 (at this point, the list only contains F1, F2 and F3)

Quit and restart Espionage, and you'll be prompted for a password.

I'll try to reproduce the other bugs but here's one that you should be able to easily reproduce:

Put Espionage into app mode (as opposed to menubar mode). Launch Espionage, click into the unlock window, and you'll notice that there's no application menus available. You have to switch out of, and back into Espionage for the app menus to appear.

Thanks for the quick support, and talk soon.

UPDATE — Needing to return to work, I logged out of my account and back in. I discovered two things:

1. Content existed in my Investments mount point.

2. The original DMG (stored in Dropbox) was gone.

So, clearly, I somehow managed to force decrypt my Investments folder. Fortunately, I had a backup of the DMG was able to recover by re-importing the DMG into Espionage.

Two comments:

1. It would appear there's a bug that results in force decrypting of a folders.

2. If there is not a bug, and if by some keystroke I force decrypted the folder, then for sure there needs to be a confirmation required on that action.

Hope this helps. I'm super happy with the security and convenient workflows that Espionage allows, but I really hope it becomes a little more reliable in terms of bugs.

Espionage 3 / URGENT — Folder disappeared
February 07, 2014, 06:01:28 AM
Hello,

I had a list of 9 folder, two of which included, "Banking" and "Investments".

This morning I unlocked my folder list in Espionage, searched for "Investment", did "Command-1" to open that folder, then searched for "Banking" and again did "Command-1" to open that folder.

Both folders were successfully opened.

When I cleared the search field, however, my "Investments" folder is completely gone!

I manually closed "Banking", and noticed that the "File -> Lock All Folders" menu items is gray, meaning Espionage believes that all folders are closed -- which means it has lost its understanding of the (still open!) Investments folder.

What do I do now? How do I recover? What will happen if I now log out of my account or close my computer?

Any advice or help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ok, setting TENeedsAutounlock to 0 has resolved the problem.

BTW, I didn't have additional folder lists. So my suspicion is that there's a bug (or some condition) under which if a folder with auto-unlock enabled is deleted, the TENeedsAutounlock setting doesn't get updated.

Hope this helps, and thanks for your help as well!

Hello, I ran that terminal command, and it returned, "1".

Currently, my folder list contains only two folders. Note, however, that since creating my folder list, I have added and removed some folders — and perhaps auto-unlock was set on some of those (I can't remember). So probably the bug is relating to removing a folder that has auto-unlock set.

Hello,

I followed your instructions, and re-enabled Auto-Unlock on all my folders. I then quit/re-launched Espionage. It asked me for the password, and opened all the folders. I then, disabled Auto-Unlock on all folders, quit and re-launched Espionage. Unfortunately, it again asked me for the password. :-(

Hopefully your developers can help. Thanks in advance.

Espionage 3 / Re: Growl 2 doesn't recognize Espionage
February 05, 2014, 09:12:20 AM
Yes, several apps appear in the Growl list. On my MacBook Air, where I also have Espionage installed, it appears in the Growl list there.

On the iMac, however, Espionage was previously sending its notifications (successfully) through Growl 1.x. When I realized, however, that 1.x was installed, I downloaded installed and launched Growl 2. I assumed that launching Growl 2, it would prompt me to remove the running 1.x; but it didn't. I then manually stopped and removed 1.x.

Then, after several combinations of starting and stopping Growl 2 and Espionage (in various orders), and even restarting the computer, Espionage is not appearing in the Growl 2 list.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Espionage 3 / SOLVED — Lost access to preferences
February 04, 2014, 11:36:35 AM
UPDATE: Ok, there *is* an application menu; it's just not visible when the app first launches (at least in my case, as the app asks for a master password on launch.) If I switch away from the app, and then back, I _do_ finally get a set of application windows.

Hi all,

I switched Espionage 3 from "menubar item" to "window", from the Preference. (I did this, hoping to find a set of application windows that could be accessed by Keyboard Maestro.)

Restarting the app, I get a window — but it seems I've completely lost access to all application menus. I can't even access the preferences any longer to switch it back to a menubar item.

Can someone help? Thanks so much, in advance!

Espionage 3 / Growl 2 doesn't recognize Espionage
February 04, 2014, 09:07:12 AM
Hello,

After installing Espionage on my iMac, and seeing a few growl messages, I realized that I still had Growl 1.x installed on the machine.

I downloaded an installed Growl 2, and opened it. I then realized that Growl 1 was still running, so I disabled it's System Preference, and then control-clicked to remove the Preference pane.

I then logged out of my account, and back in (just in case Growl 1 might still be running).

Growl 2 launched and Espionage launched. However, I'm no longer seeing notifications at all coming from Espionage, and Espionage is not listed in Growl 2's Application list.

On my MacBook Air, which was running Growl 2 when I installed Espionage, I do see Espionage in its Applications list.

Would anyone know how I can force Espionage to become registered with Growl 2 on the iMac?

Thanks so much in advance.

Espionage 3 / Password Prompt on Launch
February 04, 2014, 08:59:09 AM
Hello,

I have installed Espionage on my MacBook Air and on my iMac.

On my MBA, when I launch Espionage, I'm asked for a master password, even though I have no folders set for auto-unlock:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/c1vitduno4yywte/Screenshot%202014-02-04%2017.55.04.png

On my iMac, however, I am NOT prompted for a master password when I launch the app.

My preference is the iMac's behavior, where I only enter a password when I need to unlock a list. But I can't find any preference or setting in Espionage on the MBA which would seem to control that behavior.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
