Espionage 3 / Re: Using Dropbox
March 24, 2016, 05:57:15 AM
Hi zsolt, thank you for your answer. I tried it out, it worked. But in the end I chose a non-dropbox folder as the mountpoint. Currently I am syncing several folders/images through dropbox and it works like charm.

Is there anything that would suggest _not_ to set a mountpoint in the Dropbox-folder itself?

Espionage 3 / Using Dropbox

Hi, I just wanted to know whether there is anything planned on folder syncing. Using Dropbox with Espionage (https://www.espionageapp.com/EspionageHelp/pages/ex2-dropbox.html) does not look very safe to me... (Especially as I am the user. And all users are dangerous.)

Hi,

I guess, it is a translation error, but in the German version of Espionage, the first setting in Settings > General is - translated - "open automatically". I guess you actually mean "launch on startup" or something similar?

Thank you,

Hi there,

Steve asked for something that wondered me, too: I always thought that auto-locking espionage.app and auto-locking of folders behaves the same way.

Now I read that one (the folders) reacts to the Mac's idleness, the other one obviously not. Coupling this setting would be great. (And afaik there is an indicator-message telling me that a document is open...)

Espionage 3 / Remove additional folder sets
January 08, 2015, 10:58:37 AM
How do I remove a folder set? Do I just open the very set, click on "recreate folder" (translated from the German translation) for each and every folder in this very set - and that is it? Does Espionage remove the fake-sparsebundles then, too?

Thank you!

Okay, thank you for the answer. One last question, though: Is it possible to have Espionage add folders/files that are present in a mountpoint into the bundle mounted at this point?

So if my mountpoint is the directory /folder and I add #file1, #file2, and #file3 into /folder to have Espionage

first: secure those files somewhere (and delete them in /folder)
second: mount the volume at /folder
third: move #files1-3 into the mounted volume

...because if this would be possible, this would basically make my question obsolete as I could simply have Hazel move the files into the mountpoint and the action described above would do the rest.

Thank you!

Here you go. First what I have now:

if filename matches [YYYY-MM-DD]_important_document.pdf
run script to mount sparsebundle
copy to sparsbundle
sort into subfolder [YYYY]
run script to unmount sparsebundle

And now what I would like to have:

if filename matches [YYYY-MM-DD]_important_document.pdf
trigger espionage.app (so that I can mount an encrypted volume into a specific folder)
copy to the "folder" (actually the espionage-mounted volume)
sort into subfolder [YYYY]

(I also would not mind, if it would be possible, to pull instead of to push files, but this is afaik currently not possible with Hazel.)

Thank you!

Espionage 3 / Including Espionage into a Hazel ruleset
October 17, 2014, 01:26:21 PM
Hazel is a great little app that--for all who do not know what Hazel is--makes it possible to define conditions followed by actions to perform operations on files. Kind of like ifttt.com. You can, for example, do something like:

IF filename is "readme.txt" THEN delete this file.

I make heavy use of Hazel, especially for sorting documents I get sent to by email. Until now, when files matched specific conditions I had Hazel run a script that mounted an encrypted volume, moved and sorted all the files into this volume, unmounted it and quit.

Now I bought Espionage (finally!), but I would still like to keep automated sorting of documents.

Is there a way I can trigger mounting my encrypted volumes? I am thinking of something like Hazel matches files, runs a script, waits until I have entered my password into Espionage and when the volume is mounted, it copies all the files (but not before). This is especially tricky if the mount-point is an existing folder.

Any ideas? Thank you!

Espionage 3 / Re: Espionage and Online Backups

Thank you, Zsolt, for the detailled explanation. If only the files/folders have to be in their previous position and file permissions, metadata, etc. is irrelevant, then I am good to go. Thank you!

Thank you for your answer. What happens, if I "forget" to restore the folder that is used as a mounting point? Does Espionage ask for a new mounting point?

Espionage 3 / Espionage and Online Backups
March 21, 2014, 10:09:09 AM
I would like to ask whether the security model and the encryption used in Espionage (3) - specifically the kind of keychain Espionage uses - are made in a way that makes it no problem at all to create copies or backups of Espionage-secured data by using online backup services like Backblaze, JungleDisk or others.

I guess (hope!), the factor encryption/security should not be a problem, but what about possible losses in metadata, permissions, etc.? Backblaze, e.g., does not shine in preserving permissions, timestamps, symlinks, and a whole lot of other data Backup Bouncer tests.

Since I would like to be sure that the critical files I would like to have encrypted in Espionage 3 will not only be secure as in encrypted, but also secure as in always readable, I would be very much interested in a statement concerning (a) data-security/-availability/-integrity and (b) how data integrity is preserved when moving/copying/backing up encrypted folders and its accompanying keychain/key-database.

Thank you!

I could not resist to use this 1990s-html-tag. So moving. Such fun.
