Title: Unable to Log In
Post by: msnew on November 03, 2013, 12:47:59 PM
I installed Espionage 3 and encrypted a folder.  Now, when I try to log-in, it says incorrect password.  I tested it when I installed it, but now it's not working.  It's also not a problem as I have an unencrypted folder on another computer.  Problem is, what do I do now.  I want to delete the encrypted version and start over, but how do I do that?  Thanks!

Are you running the latest version of Espionage? If not, update to 3.5.2 (and soon 3.5.3, to be released very soon) and try again.

If you are running the latest version, and it isn't working with it for some reason (which would most likely be that the password is incorrect), then you can reset Espionage by deleting its 'database' file located in this folder:

~/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3

WARNING: deleting the 'database' means you will forever lose access to any folders you encrypted with Espionage (unless you have backups of the *decrypted* contents, or you have a working backup that Espionage automatically makes in the 'Backups' folder).

You can simply copy and paste the path above into the panel that appears when you choose "Go to Folder..." from the Finder's Go menu.

Thanks for the great support, that got me up and running again.  I did have an unencrypted backup.  One last thing to do.  How do I delete the old 10GB sparse bundle ?

By default, Espionage stores the disk images for any folder it encrypted here:

~/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/Data

They will have meaningless names, so to figure out which one to delete you'll need look at the info for each folder in Espionage (click the info icon), and make a note of the names of all the disk images. Then pick the odd man out (the disk image that isn't listed for any of the folders). That's the one that you can trash, just be sure that's the right one. Remember to check all your Folder Sets (if you created any).
