Espionage 3 / Re: Error on decrypting Folder
October 31, 2013, 03:31:13 PM
Hi Marc,

Yes, this is a bug we're aware of that Mavericks introduced into Espionage when it decrypts folders. We'll be releasing an update that fixes this problem in a few days (most likely this week).

If we can assist with any issues arising from it please let us know.

Hello:
My lifetime license stopped working when I upgraded to Version 3 of Espionage.
I purchased the lifetime license for Espionage 2 on Oct 15 2010. I just downloaded Version 3.5.2 from your website (not Apple's App Store). But when I attempt to drag in the license file to the "Drop your license file here" window, I get an error dialog that says "Sorry this is not a valid license".

Thinking something was amiss with the file, I had Tao Effects email me a copy of the lifetime license file. But the new one has the same problem.

Please tell me how to activate the version 3.5.2 with my lifetime license.

Thank You,
Jay Cowan

I just had your license resent to you. Use the attachment in the email that was sent out today (October 28, 2013), and send an email to our support email address if you run into any problems.

Hi rodrigoferrari, please have a look through the E2 to E3 Mavericks upgrade guide:

Greg, thanks for the advice. (I was out-of-town at a conference for a few days and am now just getting back to addressing this issue.)

I'm going through the Mavericks upgrade guide but cannot open iVisible; I'm getting an error message saying that the software comes from an unidentified developer. Any way around this?

Thanks,
David

Yes, you can temporarily disable Gatekeeper: Open up System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Allow apps downloaded from: Anywhere.

You can also setup "fake" email accounts while the Mail folders are locked to add a level of plausible deniability (as also shown in the video).

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the reply. Sorry if I'm still confused, I'm still thinking in esp2 terms ... and I've been through that document. What are you referring to as the "folder actions" ?

Did you watch the video I linked to? It shows you step-by-step how to setup Mail with Espionage 3 and Folder Actions.

QuoteDo you mean to say I should just drag ~/Library/Mail/V2 (which I believe is my mailbox location for all mail accounts) into Esp3, as normal?

~/Library/Mail is the folder you want to encrypt (and "~/Library/Mail Downloads" if you want to encrypt downloaded attachments). Once they're encrypted, use Folder Actions to setup launching Mail when you unlock the Mail folder. You can also add an action to unlock the "Mail Downloads" folder, and another to quit Mail when you lock the folder.

I also recommend setting up (and using) the global shortcut in the preferences so that you can quickly unlock the Folder without having to use the mouse or trackpad. For example, to unlock Mail, you do: [global shortcut] + [enter master password] + Command+1 (if Mail is the first folder in the list).

I have followed the nice instructions on the newly released pdf, and all went well until I tried to import the sparsebundle folder leftover from Esp 2 into Esp 3. I was asked for the password, but entering the one that used to open the folder in Esp 2 produces an incorrect password error message.

Any suggestions?
thanks

Did you already double-click on the disk image and enter your password for it? I think it might be possible that it will give you an error if it's already mounted. If that's the case, you'll need to eject/unmount it (by dragging the volume—not the disk image—to the trash, it should turn into an Eject icon when you do that).

If you haven't already mounted it, then try double-clicking on the disk image. You should be prompted for your password by the system. If the password you enter there works, it will mount, and you'll see it on your Desktop (if you have invisible items showing as per the instructions in the document). Then you can try (at least for that folder), the manual restoration and re-encryption instructions.

Either way, let us know what the case was. We're not aware of any bugs in Espionage 3 related to importing disk images.

This guide is for those who did not uninstall Espionage 2.x with its built-in uninstaller prior to upgrading to Mavericks.

How to update to Mavericks to insure Espionage 3 works correctly?  Do I need to unlock all folders before proceeding with the OS update?
Or can they remain locked and will migrate successfully?  Thanks.

If you're presently using Espionage 3 you don't need to do anything special.
