Title: Restoring from Time Machine
Post by: Mournfuldog on September 03, 2013, 05:48:37 AM
Hello,

I have set up my Mac using Setup Assistant. I now receive a Mountpoint Missing message—fair enough, the location of the folder from the previous Mac was on a hard drive which is not available, but the data is on the current Mac in the usual place (/Library/ApplicationSupport/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/Data). But I'm not sure how to establish a new mount point.

I've tried dragging the data file into Espionage, which asks me to specify a new folder and password, but any password I try, including the old one, is flagged as an invalid password. I'm stuck.

Hello David, unlock Espionage and near the folder with missing mount point, click on small "i", this will take you to the folder settings. Here you will find a drop down menu for mountpoint, use it to pick another empty folder as mount point.

Let me know if it did not work for you.

Hello Zsolt,

I picked another folder for the mount point (a new, empty folder), but I now receive the message "Diskimage missing!" I'm a bit confused.

Thanks,
David

Well, at the same place you have also a drop down menu to specify the disk image location, however, that would mean that the path to the disk image changed, which should not be the case, unless you set the location specifically at the time of creation, or that the disk image which the folder should be linked to is not in the expected folder home/Library/Application Support/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/Data....

So first, count the protected folders in Espionage, record for each OK folder the disk image name, and see if you have one left in the aforementioned folder, if you do, then link this one to the problematic folder...

Let me know how it went.

In Espionage, the sparse bundle listed under disk image is a name I recognize; in /Library/ApplicationSupport/com.taoeffect.Espionage3/Data there is one folder (Temp) and one file, a sparsebundle with the uncatchy name of AA9B4446-B956-4DA0-B600-E5549B0EB744. When I try to specify the uncatchy named sparsebundle in Espionage by choosing it as my disk image, I get:

Invalid disk image   The selected disk image password does not match the folder password.

I'm still at a loss.

Are you willing to make a remote session, then we can take a look together into this, maybe I can figure something out.
I will be available in about half an hour.

Pls let me know.

Zsolt,

Thank you for your kind offer. It may be simpler for me to wait until I get back home, delete the encrypted files, and restore them from my home machine unencrypted, and then set Espionage up to run properly from there. Does that seem likely to work to you?

At the moment I'm not sure what is wrong over there at you, and this is why I offered to connect, to figure it out. Till then, I don't know what will work and what will not.
But if you have the original data unencrypted, then sure, you can start from scratch, reset Espionage and add the data again. If this is OK with you, then sure, go ahead.

In any case, if you need me, I'm here
