Helper couldn't load database

My Growl notification says, "Critical Alert!  Helper couldn't find database!"  (With an Espionage icon pictured)  When I went to the encrypted folder I have with Espionage, instead of asking for a password, there are three folders there.  One says, "This folder contains encrypted data."  The second says, "It is controlled by Espionage."  The third says, "Do not modify it in this state."  What is wrong?  How do I fix it?

Hi Bananaleaf,

Try the following, and if it doesn't work, then reset Espionage:

  • Navigate in the Finder to this location:
    /Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Espionage/Backups
  • Locate the most recent database file backup and copy this file into the parent directory (Espionage)
  • Rename the file you just copied into the parent folder to just "database"
  • Open the Activity Monitor application (you can use Spotlight to find it)
  • Search for EspionageHelper, and use the red button to force quit it
  • Restart your computer

Again, if that doesn't help, then follow the reset instructions closely.

Best regards,
Greg, Tao Effect
