Title: Uninstall Espionage 2
Post by: stephan on January 09, 2013, 12:47:06 AM
Hi, I installed Espionage 2 yesterday on an imac running with OS X 10.8.2.
I wanted to lock my entire apple mail program.

What happened is that I can neither open mail any longer (crashes) nor open Espionage. I have no access to what ever Espionage function because the program does not open. No I hope to get rid of this program as soon as possible and regard it as a very bad investment, things happen.

Could anyone tell me how to uninstall Espionage safely and quickly and if possible without corrupting or deleting the 12.000 mail in the program?

Kind regards, Stephan

Hello Stephan,

I'm sorry to hear that you have troubles, I will try to help you, but I need some more info:
- Please do not Empty Trash, or delete anything at this point. Do you maybe have a Mail folder or folder Mail Downloads in your Trash?
- when you protected mail, how did you do it? By selecting Mail as application to protect, or were you adding folders by hand?
- did the encryption operation complete successfully?
- is it maybe that you did not have sufficient free space on your disk when encrypting your mail folder, as Mail folders tend to be quite big?
- when you try to launch Espionage, what does happen?
- when you go in Finder to your home folder/Library and click on the folder called Mail, and Mail Downloads, what does happen?
- do you have a padlock icon in your menu item?

Please answer me these and I will then try to help you further.

Rgds

Thanks. Well i am afraid too late for not emptying the trash, that s done.
At the first moment of installation espionage asked what i wanted to protect and offered the option to protect applications. I chose the apple mail icon.
Since than nothing wirks. The disk is only 40% full.
Opening the espionage application is not possible, the apple symbol indicating program crashes turns a while and nothing happens. It is (was) a big folder with some 10000 mails.

Best, s.

Hello Stefan, you did not answer to few of my questions

- did the encryption operation complete successfully? (did you get a notification that the encryption was successful)
- when you go in Finder to your home folder/Library and click on the folder called Mail, and Mail Downloads, what does happen?
- do you have a padlock icon in your menu item?

In addition:

can you start activity monitor application, select from drop down menu "show all processes" and then filter out Espionage Helper and iSpy, are they running?

We can very probably recover your data, we will just need the password you selected when you added Mail to espionage.

I am not sure. The only operation I did was directly after the download when the system asked if i wished to encrypt an application. I am not sure if a success message was displayed.

Yes, there is a padlock icon in the menue item

Clicking on Mail opens a window for the password. The password leads to a dialogue window with a open (downloads) and a closed lock symbol. Was was unable to change anything through this window.

Couldn't find the library ordner in the home folder, displaced? invisible?

Starting the Espionage programme enables me to type in the password and than leads immideately to a crash. No function of the program are operational.

Kind Regards,
Stephan

Hello Stephan, I will be at home in the evening, I suppose you are also in GMT+1 timezone, I would do then a remote session with you and we can fix all in one run. Would that be OK with you?
Wir können es auch auf Deutsch machen wenn es Dir lieber passt, also Sprache sollte kein Problem sein.

Hello Zslot,

thank you for the friendly proposal. Only I probably can't be close to this computer this evening, close to all other evenings would work. I am in the UK, German or English both should be fine, if we find a time. Thanks, Stephan

Hallo zzolt,

Biss dann,
Gruß
Zsolt
