Espionage 3 / Re: NOT LAUNCHING AT STARTUP !!!
June 03, 2012, 06:38:49 AM
OK, as you wish. As said, it should not be required to be in the login items, and it might be that later on you even run into problems with it because it will be attempted to be started twice, once form the LaunchAgents and once from Login Items, but as long as it works fine for you, leave it as it is.

Thanks for replying and enjoy using it.

Hello Iynque,

Unfortunately it is not possible to download a demo of Gemini, so I cannot test this. Is this issue important to you? If you insist then I can contact macpaw and see if I can get a promo code to test this.
Or if you want, we can make a remote session and then I can test on your Mac directly.

Pls let me know.

Espionage 3 / Re: NOT LAUNCHING AT STARTUP !!!
June 03, 2012, 12:37:19 AM
Hello Acuraice,

So far 3 users reported this problem, two in this forum and one through support ticket.
At the time you start EspionageV3 for the first time, it asks you if you want it to start at login (and says it is recommended), I said "yes" at that time, and had never problems with it.
So it seems that for most of the users it works fine.

I tried now to uncheck it, it did not launch on boot after that. Then I checked it again, and it launched after boot.
So it works consistent for me.
The fact that it is not present in the login items is OK, because there are other ways to start an application at login time, in this case the LaunchAgent is used.

First question:
- did you accepted the default setting at the time of installation i.e. that is launches on startup, or you first said no and then later on tried to enable it?
- second, in case the launch at login is enabled now, can you please start terminal and write the following commands

launchctl
list

(to quit launchctl just write quit and hit enter)

The in the list output you get, search if you can find these entries:
200   -   [0x0-0x1b01b].com.taoeffect.Espionage3
-   0   com.taoeffect.Espionage3Helper

Do they appear?

Thanks for your assistance, and sorry that I did not reply till now, I had huge email volume due to new version launch.

Espionage 3 / Re: Dropbox issue
June 02, 2012, 11:03:10 PM
To forum readers: Jason also submitted a support ticket for the same topic, and here is his latest update:

I finally resolved the issue. The concept that I did not understand and finally figured out through trial and error is that sync'd folders has to live outside of Dropbox on both computers, and only the sparseimage is in Dropbox. As a non-programmer, I never could figure out symbolic links, and thus always keep all my files in Dropbox and not in the Documents folder. So, my suggestion would be to make this more obvious to non-power users.

It's all working fine now.

We will update the help file to make this detail clearer.

Thanks to Jason for sharing this with us.

Espionage 3 / Re: Database Decryption Error

Hello jacobsm

Do you still experience this issue?
Were you able ever to unlock the Espionage v3, i.e. did it work at first and then get stuck at some point (after reboot for example) or it never worked?
Could you open a support ticket and attach the system.log which covers the time period since the moment it worked till the moment you got this error (6/1/12 6:15:36)?

Thanks

Espionage 3 / Re: Espionage 3 lost a folder?!!!
June 02, 2012, 10:25:37 PM
Hello ssh,

You use the master password to unlock the Espionage not the folder.
Do you manage to unlock Espionage and do you see then the added folder in the folder list?
What happens when you click on the unlock button?

Thanks

Espionage 3 / Re: Dropbox issue

Hello Jason
First you say:
Quote from: "Jason"Now, when I try to mount the disk image, I get a spinning Dropbox icon in the menubar. When I click on the Dropbox icon, the banner opens and says, "Can't sync ".Trashes": access denied.

Then you say:
Quote from: "Jason"I'm hung up on this step:

"On computer B, unlock Espionage and then drag the disk image onto the Espionage icon in the menubar to import the disk image. Enter the password that you copied in step 2 and choose create or choose an existing folder as the mountpoint (where you will eventually access the data):"
How do I enter the password that I copied in step 2?

From your first statement I would guess that the disk image is already added to the Dropbox on Computer B, but from the second, it seems that you did not.

Indeed, it should ask you for the password when you try to drag the disk image to Espionage Window on the second computer.
And only after it is added to Espionage on the second computer, which means you entered the password and specified the mount point, can you try to unlock it from Espionage.

Can you please clarify in which state the disk image on the second computer is? Does it already appear in the Espionage window with valid mount point or not?

Thanks

Espionage 3 / Re: Mountpoint Missing
June 02, 2012, 10:09:53 PM
Hello Jason,
You are not supposed to deleted related files from Finder and then try to remove them from Espionage, but the other way around, first remove them from Espionage and then from Finder, but we are aware of this limitation and a fix will be added in future releases, it will be possible to remove the folder from Espionage no matter what.

Thanks for your input,

Espionage 3 / Re: Backups

Yes, TM will backup all folders on your internal drive unless you explicitly exclude it
The data is written to the disk image right away.

Hope this helps,

Espionage 3 / Re: Clarification requested

Hello Harringg,

Now at the end I do not know if you want to use V2 or V3, so I do not know if your last question is related to V2 or V3. But in short, V2 uses so called symlinks to trick the finder or other application to think that the folder is there where it is expected, where it is in fact on a mounted disk image.
In some cases this did not work well and the apps would realize that it is not the real folder but a symlink.
V3 uses different mechanism where the transparency should be better and less or no apps will be aware that it is not the real folder.

But the best way to go is to simply test. Create a new DB and test with it, I do not believe that you can mess something up, but in case you do backups, then do one before you start :-)

Espionage 3 / Re: Invalid password
June 01, 2012, 12:24:57 AM
Hello Socrates,

If you would be so kind to share with us the (well not the password itself) but at least the special characters you used in it and its length, so that we try to reproduce this.
If you prefer, you can send this info directly by email to me at mailto:taoeffect@macmesupport.com">taoeffect@macmesupport.com
But if you refuse, no hard feelings we all have a favorite password and like to keep it (very) secret :-)

Thanks in advance,

Espionage 3 / Re: Backups
June 01, 2012, 12:19:28 AM
Hello,

The disk image can be backed up no matter it is locked or unlocked. There is a slight chance for invalid backup if the data is written to the folder at the very same moment the Backup is saving the image, but unless you use the folder for some continuously writing purpose, you should be fine.
The V3 does support custom location of the disk image, so in case you are using different location then the default Application Support/Espionage/Data, then make sure you backup that location too.

Re unlocking the image without Espionage, yes the possibility exists but you need to take some steps up front. The V3 automatically generates the password for each disk image. You can get this password for each folder by clicking on retrieve password button. So you should basically copy all the password out and store them in some super safe place, like some password management app.

I hope this answers you question(s)

Hello, due to release of V3 I'm a bit loaded now, but give me some time and I will test it and see if I can help you.
