Hello Frank, this is indeed so, and it is so because Apple decided to make it so. Why, I was wondering too.
There is a workaround though, by using the hdiutil command, but even this got more complicated with Maverick, still possible though.
If you are interested, let me know.

Hi Zsolt-
Thank you.  I may or may not need to know how to do that.
Here is what I need it for.
I am now writing my files to an external hard drive (lets call it HD#1), encrypt using E3
(I write the sparse bundles to the same HD), then store the HD#1 offsite.
When ready to do more work, plug in HD#1 to computer- unlock and all is well

For backup I have purchased ChronoSync and use it to make left to right copies of the sparse bundles from HD#1 to a second external hard drive (call it HD#2)
That is also ejected and stored off site.  (I make the copies after locking the files.)

I understand E3 is writing the location to library/application support/com.taoeffect.espionage3/database
and that that file is being backed up by Time Machine which I have set up to take care of most of my computer- it writes to another external HD which generally is left with the computer(call it TM HD)

So- in the case of Mac crash, I would back up or restore from Time machine and all is well, right?

BUT- what if HD#1 crashes? If I have been using ChronSync, I should have up to date copies of my sparse bundles all set on HD#2.
I would just get an new hard drive to use as a new HD#1, use ChronoSync to copy them over from HD#2 to new HD#1---I am pretty sure E3 will be telling me the files cannot be found.
So This is the question- how do I tell E3 where the sparse bundles are on the new HD#1.

Once I have the answer, I would plan to test that, as well as making certain that ChronoSync accurately copies any changes I make in the files as I work each day.

I hope this is clear enough.

And I never have been able to.....

I am testing backup files. I have a copy of my sparsebundles on a removable disk.
I click on the I symbol, then click to copy password.
I am able to paste the pasword into a document such as a text edit page, so it is there.

But when I try to open the sparsebundle, I get a dialog box with a window and instruction to paste into the empty field.
CMD-V, or right click---- nothing happens.
I can manually enter the password, but there always are a few characters I can't find-perhaps option or alt keys.
Frustration.

Does anyone know the answer?

Hi, Zsolt-
Sorry. Work intervened.
This Friday is a holiday for me, Nov 29.
What would be a good time to connect for you?
For me (GMT -5),  any time from GMT 1500 to 2300 would be fine.
If you would like my preference, I will say GMT 1600, but I am flexible.
Let me know and thank you.

Hi Zsolt-

I am GMT -5, making us 6 hours apart.
So a weekend may be best, since during the weekday otherwise I will have to plan a very early session (such as 0500 local) before work in order to schedule a satisfactory time for your help.
This weekend I am able to do that on Sunday Nov 24, if you would be able. I need to be done by 1700 GMT, but before that is OK.\
Let me know what would work best for you, and thanks again.

Thank you Zsolt-

I will not use Time machine, since I do not want to place my espionage backups with all the rest of my mac backups.
So I will need to use  third party software for espionage backing up, probably DataBackup.

Let me get that running and I will then try a test of the backup files.

Thanks for the reply-

If you protect a folder which is on your external drive, then Espionage will ask you where to put the disk image. You can select any place you want, and then just make sure you backup that too.

-Since I will backup the disk image to a second dedicated external drive, I will not be able to Use Time Machine, which uses its own designated hard drive for all the other non encrypted files on the Mac.  Could I use another program such as CrronoSync or DataBackup to do this job, and should I allow them to run only after the files are locked?

Hi, Zsolt-

i don't have weekday time till until about 2200 GMT  (1800 EST)each day, but on Nov 19, I should be free after about 1700 GMT (1300 EST). Would that work for you?

Thanks Greg-
I did indeed forget to post the screenshot: see below as "Screen Shot-Esp backup copy"

I will review the link, thanks.

I have a couple of issues to be certain about, and I would like to tackle them one at a time.

My first  concern is regarding what to do in the event of a total Mac hard drive failure- that takes out both database copies.
It would also take out the sparsebundles in "data", except I am using external hard drives and I am asked where I want to put them (see "Screen Shot placing mount point ") and I place them on the same external HD.
I am using Time Machine however; so in the event of a total Mac hard drive failure do I then replace my hard drive(or computer) and restore fromTime Machine  and all is well??
Once I have your answer I will move on to the next question.
Thanks again,
Frank (aka lifeatsea)

Hi-
I made a copy of one of my V3 folders as instructed by Tao effect ( see screen shot)

I don't seem to be able to open it, however.  The password it asks for is not my master password.

Am I supposed to copy down all the unique passwords assigned to each folder by Espionage?  Not a good idea.
I plan to make backup copies with software, but if they don't work, what is the point?

My concern is to be able to recover from a HD crash either with my primary file HD ( an external HD), or maybe worse, a Mac crash where I have to reinstall espionage and get my files to open.

Has anyone actually done this yet/  I need to be able to do it as a test.

Espionage 3 / Adobe Bridge doesn't play with espionage 3?
November 12, 2013, 12:16:51 PM
Hi, I'm a noob on the forum but using V2 for several years.
Now migrating to V3..
When I unlock folders with Photoshop files, I had been using Bridge to sort through the files.
Bridge doesn't seem to see the unlocked folder as a normal folder, and doesn't display the  content.
Anybody have this issue?  It's a bummer; Bridge is a great program for sorting through a number of photos quickly.
