That worked perfectly!  It ended up being the Data Detective process that was still accessing files in the AddressBook directory.  I killed it and all is well.  Thanks!

Hi there!

It seems that since upgrading to Mavericks, I have a small hiccup going on.  For some reason, every folder I have in Espionage will lock just fine, except for AddressBook.  Any ideas where to start?  Thanks!

Problem solved!  In trying to copy the folder to another location, I discovered that one of the files in the folder was set to permission 700 with owner root.  As soon as I changed that, the encryption worked like a charm!

Thanks so much for your troubleshooting steps, Zsolt.

Hey Zsolt!

Thanks so much for getting back to me.  I tried creating a brand new folder with a single document in it, and that seemed to encrypt fine.  I don't really see any difference in the two folders...they are both sitting in the Documents folder and I guess the only difference I see is that the *new* folder, the one that worked, has the "@" at the end of its file permissions on the command line.  The permissions for "private" do not.  Would that have anything to do with it?

The "private" folder is still there and appears to be fine.  I have no virus scanner, just have my "os x" firewall turned on.  I'm not sure what memeo backup is...is that related to Time Machine?

Thanks!  Let me know what you'd like me to try next.

Hello!  I'm very excited to use Espionage 3, but it seems I've run into a snag even before getting started.  I downloaded and installed the trial, and the very first folder I try to protect results in the attached error dialog box.  I am also going to cut and paste the console contents in the case that it's helpful.  I hope this ends up being some trivial config issue, this software really is exactly what I need if I can get it to work!

Many thanks,

-Greg
