Title: bit of a pickle
Post by: julianslater on October 12, 2012, 07:17:11 AM
Hey, I hope you can help.

So.....
I installed Mountain Lion onto my Mac Pro which has been running ESp2 for a longtime and its all been fine. However, since i have gone to ML my Mail has been acting really weird and not auto-complting addresses as i type them in (which is really painful). I figured that this could be because of a conflict with ESP 2 (my Mail, Calendar and Contact are what i protected with ESP2 ) so tried to un-install but the program would it just hang when i tried to decrypt. For some reason i thought i would try the ESP3 demo and see if that helped...which it did not. Now i cant even click on the padlock icon on the top bar of the mac as it just gives an error beep. So now i really want to get rid of ALL ESPIONAGE traces for the moment...then i can fix the mail problem...then i can re install ESP, but right now i cannot access ESP to do this.

Hope this makes some kind of sense to you???

Thanks

Julian

Hello Julian,
Why did the email addresses not autocomplete I do not know. It might have to do something with Espionage but so far nobody reported this to us.
However hanging on decryption is indeed an Espionage problem, and should have not happen.
But considering you were decrypting probably a considerable amount of data, could it be possible that you ran out of free space on your disk?
Was the Apple Mail quit when you tried to decrypt the folders?

Once you downloaded the Version 3, you probably overwrote the Version 2 with it, so unless you have to Espioange apps in your App folder, probably the one you have is V3 (you can check using get info).
If this is correct, quit Espionage 3 using the padlock in the menu bar (both 2 and 3 have padlocks, but the 3 has this new kind of window, with cog icon in the lower right corner, use that to quit it).
Then rename the app to something like Espionage3.
Go to the link http://www.taoeffect.com/espionage/Espionage.dmg (http://www.taoeffect.com/espionage/Espionage.dmg) to download the version 2 again. Place it in your app folder and launch it.
Then you can try to decrypt again.
Once you have all your data back, you can uninstall it using the uninstall option in the Espionage menu.
In case you do not manage to launch Espionage, or the folders do not show in the list, let me know if you get a pass prompt when you click on the protected folder or you enter into the folder and see 3 subfolders named "this folder contains..." and I will instruct you further.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me...very much appreciated.

My problem is that i cannot 'quit' Espionage. The only icon i can see is the padlock up on the toolbar..if i click it i do get the options of 'open espionage' as well as seeing the 4 apps that i use espionage on with the option to 'unlock' or 'reveal in folder' for each of these. However, if i click 'open Espionage' i just get the Mac error beep...i can't open it. I can't see the new window with the cogs in it. As i can'y open Espionage i can't 'get info' to see what version is running.

One other point. When i open Mail for the first time on Mountain lion it did indeed give an error message saying there was not enough free space...however i think i fixed this by going into the Terminal and increasing the size (i found out how to do this on a post).

So at the moment i cannot do as you ask as i am 'locked out'. I can still access my mail as Espionage does still encrypt and decrypt it...however i want to just flush it out for now so that i can fix the 'auto complete' snag...

Thanks again for your help....

1 further thing that may help you.  Since i have gone to Mountain Lion, to even access the Icloud system prefs...Espionage kicks in and ask for the password.  When i type it in, the prefs open but i get the following banner from Espionge. "ALERT 'Mail' contained files in the shell folder, they were saved and placed in the Trash. They can be automatically deleted instead (See Espionage's advanced preferences"

Hope that helps in some way!!???

Hello Julian, I think this would be much easier to fix in a remote session. Are you available for one in coming days?
I will be online for another hour or two, then tomorrow around this time again.
Pls let me know.

Thanks

Hi. The problem is that the problem is on my Mac at work not home. I won't be at work that late..at least preferably not. Is that the earliest you can do?
