Hello,

I'm using Espionage all the time with my MacbookPro with Retina and I use gfxCardStatus so I can save some battery juice while working. And it seems like that Espionage keeps the discrete video card active all the time, which drains the battery a lot.

Honestly, I can't see why Espionage's UI needs some much power that the discrete video card needs to be using always (even when no Espionage windows are visible). Is there a reason? Can this be fixed?

Espionage 3 / Auto unlock folder and Dropbox
August 08, 2012, 01:19:21 PM
Hello,

I've a folder that is auto unlocked when I login and this folder sparsebundle file is in Dropbox. The doubt is do I need to lock the folder before using the folder on another Mac or just by shutting down my Mac it is safe to use on other?

Scenarios:
1. Login -> auto unlock -> work on folder all day -> shut down Mac.
2. Login -> auto unlock -> work on folder all day -> manually lock folder -> shut down Mac.

Do I need to manually lock the folder before using it on another Mac?

I hope you find a good solution

Deep down it point to de app association. But the suggestion does not require the spy and does one thing that app association didn't.

With app association Espionage asks for password to open the app. What this would do is allow the app to open but without my protected data. Another level of plausible deniability.

And Espionage wouldn't know about apps. I would be responsible to configure "single file associations outside the current folder" thing :)

Hi there,

I think it would be great if I have a way to encrypt/hide a single file. I'm suggesting it because I can't move this file.

My use case is this. I use Sparrow as my email client and on my job's Mac I want to encrypt my personal email accounts when I'm not at the office. Currently I can encrypt ~/Library/Application Support/Sparrow and this would hide Sparrow's data, theoretically. Upon testing I found out that Sparrow keeps the account list in a file (com.sparrowmailapp.sparrow.plist) inside ~/Library/Preferences so even with the Sparrow data "locked" when I open the app it recreates the emails because it access all the accounts.

The idea is to be able to hide this file when the ~/Library/Application Support/Sparrow is locked, so that it only have work related email accounts. This feature could be an option inside the Folder Info (the little "i" in Espionage's window) saying "hide these files when this folder is locked". When locked Espionage would put a file that was there before the lock, just like it does with folders.

Hope you guys like the idea. It would be awesome to me.

Espionage 3 / Re: Upgrade from Espionage 2 to 3
June 27, 2012, 08:33:27 AM
That kind of upgrade path makes sense only on the Mac App Store. Now that the app isn't there anymore I agree with tamer that it should have an upgrade price.

I didn't bought on that week because of a bug that wouldn't let me encrypt things inside ~/Library. I believe this has been solved now, but without the upgrade price I'm not feeling ok in buying it.

Another suggestion to the same button. When I activate it (hopefully with only a click in the future) it should remain activated even if Espionage is still working in unlocking (or vice-versa).

It's odd to drag to activate and it goes back to inactive while the unlocking process is on going and then it activates again.

For me it's being pretty bad experience the lock/unlock switch because I've to click and hold and then drag it to change its state. I think it would be much better if I could also just click on it and the state change. Just like on the iOS standard switch which accepts a tap and the drag gesture.

Espionage 3 / Encrypt a folder inside Library
May 28, 2012, 08:05:35 AM
Hello,

I'm testing Espionage 3 to see if it fits my needs and I've found a problem. One my main usages of Espionage 2 is encrypt my mail (I use Sparrow) and Adium history. But both of these apps keeps its date in ~/Library/Application Support/ and when I try to encrypt them I get this error:

QuoteBad Folder
Encrypting the Library folder or anything inside of it can lead to problems. You can use FileVault to do that safely.

I understand that I've to manually unlock the folder prior to open the app but I can't to this if Espionage doesn't let me encrypt the folder. Is there a way to override this? Using FileVault in this case isn't an option since I need the folder to remain locked even after I logged in.
