Espionage 3 / Re: Is there a manual?
June 09, 2013, 01:02:10 PM
Hello Martin, the application protection and pass only protection were features of Espionage 2, and are not present in Espionage 3 due to changes in how OS X works. So if you really need those features then you would need to use Espionage 2. You can read about Espionage 2 at www.taoeffect.com and about Espionage 3 at www.espionageapp.com

Once you decided which one to you, let me know and we can probably convert your license to Espionage 2 if this is what you want.

Hello Richard, this feature is the main reason why the application association was altogether removed from version 3.
Version 3.5 is an attempt to partially bring the feature back, but in a reverse way: instead application launch triggering folder unlock, now the folder unlock triggers application launch. It is not the same thing, for sure, but it still saves some clicks.

We cannot hook early enough in the logon process to stop launching apps marked for auto open, and unlock folder first, so this is the best way we can do.

If you like and want to use the Apple's application reopen feature upon logon, then you should not protect application folders.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Espionage 2 / Re: Both versions 2 and 3.5
June 03, 2013, 07:59:25 AM
Hello, this is because you did not uninstall version 2 first.
Please quit the current version using the padlock of version 3, then rename the Espionage to Espionage3 for example, download the version 2 from www.taoeffect.com, launch it, select uninstall option from Espionage menu, this will decrypt all protected folders and remove all traces from version 2. Then you can rename the Espionage3 back to espionage and start to use it.

let me know if you get stuck.

Espionage 3 / Re: Max Folder Size for encrypting?
June 03, 2013, 07:55:40 AM
There should't be. Espionage is using the same underlying OS X technology Apple was using in first version of File Vault, i.e home folder encryption in Snow Leopard.
It might be that some of the folders have some corruption or that you do not have sufficient free disk space for sparsebundle to be created.

If you do have sufficient space, then try to protect some of the subfolders, or maybe run repair permission and disk check using disk utility.

Espionage 3 / Re: 3.5 and application "association"
June 03, 2013, 07:53:13 AM
Hello

You can protect a folder and have no association at all. Simply the folder is protected, when you unlock it the data is accessible when you lock it, the data is protected.
The application association is referring to the Espionage 2 functionality which was so far missing from version 3, it is kind of an automation, when you unlock a folder then it will trigger the application to launch, say, whenever you unlock a folder containing your tax spreadsheets, this means you want to work on them, and for example Excel will be needed, so to save you one click, when you unlock the folder, this will also launch Excel for you.

You cannot protect single email, you can either protect all your email data or nothing, as Espionage protection is folder based, so it will protect the folder in which all your emails reside.

let me know if it is still unclear.
