Hi

My mac automatically synchs with my dropbox account.

I share the same dropbox account with my work colleague. His computer is linked to same dropbox account, but he uses a window machine.

Can a file encrypted by me on my mac, be opened by him (with correct password) on his windows machine, where both mac and windows computer are synched with the same dropbox account?

Hello Dave, no, they cannot, because Windows does not recognize the encrypted sparse disk image bundle (unless there is a dedicated application for that on Window, which I'm not aware of)

thanks very much for the clarification. Unfortunately i need encryption that can be opened up on both mac and windows, where both machines are linked via dropbox

http://www.truecrypt.org/ might do it for you, but I have no idea how it behaves with dropbox.
