When I enter my master password into Espionage it thinks for a long while and eventually gives me a database decryption error and tells me to look in the log.
This is what I'm seeing;
6/1/12 6:15:36.235 PM Espionage ERROR (-[NSData(TECrypto) decrypt:]:131): scryptdec_buf returned: 9
6/1/12 6:15:36.235 PM Espionage ERROR (+[DBSubdb subdbWithData:master:pass:error:]:45): failed because: !decrypted
6/1/12 6:15:37.046 PM Espionage ERROR (-[NSData(TECrypto) decrypt:]:131): scryptdec_buf returned: 9
6/1/12 6:15:37.054 PM Espionage ERROR (+[DBSubdb subdbWithData:master:pass:error:]:45): failed because: !decrypted

Hello jacobsm
Do you still experience this issue?
Were you able ever to unlock the Espionage v3, i.e. did it work at first and then get stuck at some point (after reboot for example) or it never worked?
Could you open a support ticket and attach the system.log which covers the time period since the moment it worked till the moment you got this error (6/1/12 6:15:36)?
Thanks
Zsolt

I rebooted and it seems to have helped. If it happens again I'll open up a ticket as requested.

Hello Matuzalem,
Indeed, for few users it does not want to work nice, whereas for most of them it just works fine...
Plase try these steps:
- if you changed the initial master password to a new one, please change it back
- if you have enabled start on login, disable for this test
- try to restart Espionage
- try to reboot your Mac
please let me know if it helped.

I had tried changing the Password before but the sparse disk wouldn't open, so I changed it back, copied the files out, deleted the entry and finally created a new one. At that point I had an encrypted folder that worked… but when I rebooted I got the error. Then I checked this forum, rebooted again (2nd time) and the problem was gone…
Since then I've rebooted 3 or 4 times, upgraded to Mountain Lion (DP4) and it still works.

Thanks for replying,
Matu

Hello Matu,
thanks for update, it seems we have some bug lurking around, I hope devs will figure it out soon, I guess it must be an interaction of Espionage with OS and some timing issue....
Thanks again,
Zsolt

I seem to be having the same problem. Espionage 3 has been working just fine until today when I started getting the same scryptdec_buf related errors too.
I tried rebooting and restoring a backup of the database to no avail.
21.6.2012 12.25.45,598 Espionage: ERROR (-[NSData(TECrypto) decrypt:]:131): scryptdec_buf returned: 9
21.6.2012 12.25.45,599 Espionage: ERROR (+[DBSubdb subdbWithData:master:pass:error:]:45): failed because: !decrypted

An update:
After getting home (and sleeping my MBP for a while) Espionage opened the encrypted folder again without any problems.

I do not like problems which go away by themselves as they usually come back with "friends", but so far so good, let me know if it chokes again.
Thanks for input.
