don't understand app

using computers since 79, some semi-pro apps. but don't seem to be able to understand this one or its instructions.
i managed to get a folder with two files into the right place, but the auto-timer didn't seem to take effect to make it unavailable again.
and i could see the folder and its contents and open them both in the app's window and at the mount point effortlessly (though i did follow the instructions about that with secure empty trash).
sooooo, i can't tell when something is protected and when it's not or if it is at all.

perhaps i am being obtuse. perhaps i am an idiot.
i am not asking for help, but letting you know that the interface is not at all clear to this long-time computer user.
hope you'll consider an on-line video tutorial.
